Accredited Mediation Training

Certified Mediation Training – Small Group Intensive Training with an Experienced Practitioner and Trainer

Our course offers you a high quality learning experience in small groups of no more than 5-6 per trainer. This ensures that can benefit fully from individual, targeted mentoring and feedback from the trainer and gives you optimum opportunity of successfully completing the required assessment to attain the Certified level of accreditation.

Mediation is a process whereby a neutral third party facilitates or assists parties in dispute to come to a mutually satisfactory agreement. In Ireland, the main accrediting body for mediator training is the Mediator’s Institute of Ireland. They approve training courses that lead onto one of two accreditation levels: Certified and Practitioner.

Certified Members of the MII are required to demonstrate that they have completed and MII approved training course and have undertaken and passed an MII approved role play assessment in line with the MII Certified Member Core Competencies.

Upon successful completion of this course and the assessment role play, you can register with the Mediators Institute Ireland and apply for a practising certificate and be approved to mediate, within your competency level, by the MII. You are also required to sign up to the MII Code of Ethics. If you wish to practice as a family mediator, you are also required to participate in additional training modules or 15 hours of co-mediation and be assessed on your skills during this.

This MII approved course comprises 60 hours which consists of 6 full training days, reading homework and completion of a 3000 word assignment.

Assessment comprises 55 minutes of mediating a role play in which two of your class colleagues play the parties. You will have a choice of three role plays and will have seen these in advance. You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the Certified Member Core Competencies.

“I attended a certified Mediation Course with Mary over a number of week-ends in 2009/2010. I found the course excellent both in delivery and content with a good balance between theory and practice. I found Mary to be expert in her subject matter and her style of delivery created an optimal and enjoyable learning environment. I have since put many of the skills I learned to very good use in my own professional work.”
